An Approach to Vindicatio in Understanding Friendship
Abstract
Within friendship, Leonardo Polo recognizes two great tendencies without which the deep meaning of friendship cannot be understood: gratitude and vindicatio. The vindicatio is the object of this article. There is a virtuous way (friendly correction), and two flawed ways of living this tendency: hatred (or revenge) and indifference. Finally, the forgiveness granted to the friend is the elevation of the vindicatio.
