Nacional Music, Nationalist Music, or Ecuadorian Music?
En camino hacia una construcción conceptual
Abstract
This article approaches the general definitions of “music”, its nature from an evolutionary point of view and its being a characteristic feature of the human species. From a cultural perspective, music is analyzed as a language and as an expression of identity. Finally, by means of interviews held with outstanding musicologists and researchers, this article intends to shed light on the definitions of national music, nationalist music and Ecuadorian music.
