Think Tanks in Ecuador
Hegemonic Discourse and Political-Ideological Strategy
Keywords:
Think Tanks, neoliberalism, ideology, elitesAbstract
In recent decades, think tanks have gained relevance in public opinion and achieved greater participation in academic and political spaces. This article examines how think tanks operate in Ecuador as a political-ideological strategy of power groups, which instrumentalize them to legitimize their political agenda and contest the establishment of "truth discourses." First, the study analyzes the thought production frameworks that operate within think tanks and the ideological struggle behind theoretical and conceptual discussions. Then, it explores think tanks in Ecuador as political-ideological tools that promote liberal ideas and define discourses aligned with hegemonic ideology. Finally, it investigates the functioning, actors, and connections with economic and political elites of two of Ecuador's main think tanks: Ecuador Libre and the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Economía Política.
