Abstract

Symbol is, according to L. Polo, the properly human addition and constitutive of art as a perfecter of nature. It is a particular mode of knowledge that requires production through imagination and intelligence, and to which it is proper to perceive the Beautiful as the ultimate superior to man and his rationality. The human response to Beauty is infatuation, the desire for change and union with the beautiful.
