Ecuadorian Community living abroad represents an important percentage of the total population of the country. Said percentage has mainly migrated to the United States and Europe. Economic contributions made by migrants in the last fifteen years are undeniable, since they have helped in Ecuador's economic stabilization (consignments). Nevertheless, this analysis is centered in citizen participation of our fellow citizens abroad, understood as an integral type of participation, through a general review of cultural, social and even political variables.
The association of migrant groups exists in different levels; thus, we can find formal initiatives as well as foundations, cultural groups, sport and student clubs, among others; and, also, other activities organized under a less institutionalized frame, as a result of specific situations, such as the rally organized by the Ecuadorian Community in Hamburg to support the victims of the earthquake ocurred in April 2016.
These experiences must be considered in order to understand the reality of the Ecuadorian Community abroad, and may serve as inputs for the development of relevant public policies.
