Juan Larrea Holguín and his relationship with the Ecuadorian National History Academy
Abstract
Monsignor Juan Larrea Holguin is an iconic figure of Ecuadorian law. An authentic legal author, sometimes his contributions to other branches of knowledge, as for example, theology, are usually somewhat unknown to the public. Likewise, his facet as a painter has limited diffusion; even more hidden is his activity in the development in the field of history. In this article, Larrea Holguin's relationship with history will be discussed, from family´s influence, his first contacts with the historical work, his relationship with the National Academy of History of Ecuador, to his incorporation as a member of the aforementioned institution. This way, we intend to present this interesting facet of the intellectual Juan Larrea Holguin.
